Mel is now a well known author and activist, as well as radio appearances and books he has written numerous articles for cannabis magazines worldwide. He also has a regular section on the website Stuff Stoners Like. Mel now actively campaigns against prohibition and his first book, Cannabis Cultivation has been in print for over ten years, being one of the top five best selling cultivation books ever written., Mel is an outspoken critic of the pharmaceutical industry and Government policies, particularly as two family members suffer from medical conditions that cannabis can alleviate; namely Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson's syndrome.
Mel is now actively involved with Bud Buddies, a non profit organization dedicated to researching the medicinal uses, preparation and application of cannabis buds and oils, particularly in cancer treatment. They supply limited amounts of cannabis oil free to cancer patients - they don't even charge postage. Bud Buddies has a legal experimental grow room in Spain sponsored by Canna where they trial new methods of cultivation and cannabis oil production. The organization has recently produced a generic version of Sativex costing $8.00 to produce (Sativex costs patients $190.00) and have also developed standardized capsules which contain 320mg of CBD each.
"Herb [cannabis] is a plant; I mean Herb is so good for everything. Why? Why do these people who profess they want to do so much good for everyone and call themselves governments and this and that, say you must not use the herb? Their motivation appears to be that its use makes us rebel. Against what? Against those who crave material possessions and wish to influence our subconscious behavior by making us work for their benefit and keep it all. Herb allows you to reflect upon this and question why you should submit to their will, and helps you to understand that you are their equal, not in the sense of owning material things, but in the sense of why should you agree to their doctrine? This means that you are your own person, you own yourself; you are not enslaved; you do what you want to do; you are responsible for yourself and become free of their ways without caring what others think" - Bob Marley (1945-1981)
